NHL:
-The NHL filed an unfair labor practice charge
with the National Labor Relations Board, claiming that a players'
association policy that would penalize members who became
replacements is coercive and in violation of their rights.
NFL:
-Linebacker Julian Peterson signed a
one-year tender offer Friday with the San Francisco 49ers, who had
named him their franchise player for the second straight season.
-The Detroit Lions re-signed defensive
tackle Marcus Bell to a three-year contract, spokesman Matt
Barnhart said Friday.
-Defensive end Jacques Cesaire re-signed with
the San Diego Chargers on Thursday.
- The Green Bay Packers signed veteran
guard Matt O'Dwyer on Thursday to a one-year deal for the veteran
minimum $765,000.
NCAA FOOTBALL:
-Detroit Lions assistant Kevin Higgins
was hired Thursday as the football coach at The Citadel, which went
3-7 last season.
-Southern California starting cornerback Eric
Wright has been arrested for investigation of sexual assault,
police said Sunday.
-Arizona State running back Loren Wade was
arrested Saturday on suspicion of first-degree murder in the
shooting death of a former ASU football player.
-Miami defensive tackle Orien Harris
will miss the remainder of spring practice while recovering from
shoulder surgery, but expects to be ready for the regular season.
